Description

What is Hard Custom Night Guard

A hard night guard is a single-layer, rigid dental appliance crafted from durable thermoplastic. It’s designed to resist wear from strong grinding forces, distribute bite load evenly, and shield enamel and dental work. Because it’s firm, many heavy grinders find it more durable than soft guards and more stable than flexible options. It can feel “stiffer” at first, but most users adapt quickly because of the precise, custom fit.

How to choose thickness

  • 1.5 mm – slimmer profile with solid protection; a good choice if you want a firm feel without too much bulk.
    • 3.0 mm – maximum durability and protection for heavier grinding/clenching or if you’ve worn through thinner guards before.

What Hard Guard Provide

Firm, stable protection
The rigid material resists abrasion and helps keep the jaw in a consistent, supported position through the night.

Longer wear life
Hard guards typically outlast softer materials for people with strong grinding patterns, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

Precise occlusal contact
Custom fabrication from your impressions creates even contact areas, helping distribute pressure and reduce localized wear on enamel or dental work.

Keep In Mind:

Night dental guards reduce tooth-to-tooth contact and help control the effects of bruxism, but they don’t cure the underlying causes (stress, sleep factors, etc.). A well-made, well-worn hard guard offers robust protection, especially if you tend to chew through softer guards.

Upper vs. lower, what should I pick?

Both arches can work well. Many people choose upper out of habit; some prefer lower because it can feel less visible. Pick the arch you’re most likely to wear consistently or follow your dentist’s recommendation. Consistency is necessary.

How to Care and when to replace

  • Rinse after each use; brush gently with a soft brush (avoid abrasive toothpaste).
    • Let it dry fully and store in a ventilated case.
    • Replace if you notice cracks, chips, uneven thinning, or new sore spots. Heavy grinders often prefer the 3.0 mm thickness for longer life; 1.5 mm suits users who want a slimmer feel with firm protection.

1 review for 2 Hard Night Guards

  1. Gail B. (verified owner)

Went back and forth with Oki about type, material etc. Their knowledge and expertise in customer service was above and beyond.
    As far as the product?
My mouth guard (s) fit like a glove and are very comfortable.
    As far as PRICE?
Unbelievably affordable. My dentist wanted $875!!!
These are comparable to what I would have gotten from my dentist, and LESS EXPENSIVE.
    Highly recommend Oki.
